Tribute to Debussy at the Festival D’Estiu of Ciutadella, Menorca

Judith Jáuregui will return to the Festival D´Estiu on August 6th with a programme in memory of Claude Debussy in the year that celebrates the centenary of his death. The evening will begin with a tribute to his tomb composed by Falla, Pour le tombeau de Debussy. This piece will be followed by two of Debussy’s most characteristic works, Estampes and L’Isle joyeuse, before moving on to Ballade no. 2 in B minor by Liszt, in whom -the pianist remarks- “much is foretold of what would happen musically at the beginning of the XX century”. In the second half of the concert, the audience will be treated to the Valses nobles et sentimentales by Ravel “to whom Debussy was close to at different times throughout his life” and Chopin’s Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante op. 22, “one of his great inspirations”.

Judith has commented how happy she is to be back at the festival, not only for the concert itself but also for the opportunity to return again to Menorca, a place with "an energy that captivates me". The island is a recurring destination for the pianist, who admits she “makes sure to go there every year and enjoy its wild nature, its cuisine, its people and its crystal-clear waters, which for me are absolutely reinvigorating. This year I will be able to combine music with my love for the island".

With two important debuts in major European capitals – at the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris on May 17th and at the Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre in London on May 30th – the pianist Judith Jáuregui has brought to a close a successful season that has taken her to important venues in Spain such as the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the  Góngora in Córdoba, the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, the Baluarte in Pamplona or the ADDA in Alicante, as well as different stages in France, Germany and England. Having finalised her season in Europe, Jáuregui embarked on a recital tour of China in July, which saw her play in Beijing, Tianjin, Harbin, Chengdu and Liuzhou.
